Projects

A rundown of every mod/hack/upgrade on my guinea pig Asus EEE PC 901 in order to make it somewhat usable in the modern day. This includes software packages, bios alterations, and hardware hacks.

A tiny nightlight with a relaxing pulsating effect. It features a very common micro USB input, adjustable brightness, adjustable pulsating frequency, soft-start to reduce thermal stress of the VFD filament and a capacitive touch ON/OFF switch.

A small power supply module that takes a 5V USB input and produces a 180V output at up to almost 15mA. This can be used to power the anodes of Nixie (and other cold cathode display) tubes, Magic Eye tubes or audio tubes.

A pleasing visual effect based upon a vintage 'Magic Eye' tube (originally intended for assisting in tuning valve-based receivers). This section documents a few options for creating the pulsating effect.

A compact desk ornament that combines the retro charm of a Nixie tube with the portability of USB power; this project makes use of a single IN-19V symbol Nixie Tube to provide more variety in the illuminated cathodes over the standard 0-9 Nixies.
